Taking part in community events is important to us, so when the Caldwell Police Department held their 2nd Annual “Back the Blue” Cornhole Tournament, our Fresca team members were excited to take part. While they didn’t bring home the gold, 100% of the proceeds went directly to the Caldwell Police Department’s K-9 Unit. Patrol Commander, Lt. Joey Hoadley stated, “The money we’ve raised over the past two years has gone towards constructing a police K-9 training facility in Caldwell that is now operational.” Great work, team!
Fresca’s tortillas will soon be available at over 1,100 Walmart stores across the country. Customers will be able to buy them in the bakery department under Walmart’s private label. The product mix will include stoneground corn tortillas, two sizes of flour tortillas, whole wheat, and Fresca’s famous salsa-flavored tortilla. “This is a very exciting opportunity for us,” states Tom Nist, VP of Sales & Marketing. “Walmart is a great company to partner with, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be able to offer our fresh tortillas in Walmart stores across the US.”
It’s official! Fresca takes residence in their new state-of-the-art facility in Caldwell, ID. With over double the capacity, the tortilla manufacturing company looks forward to expanding operations and increasing production. Fresca is pleased to announce it has broken ground on its new state-of-the-art tortilla plant in Caldwell, ID. The 190,000 sf facility is anticipated to be completed by mid-2018 and will not only give Fresca additional capacity for its exceptionally pliable tortillas but also new capabilities to make a variety of different flat breads. “Fresca is celebrating our 40th anniversary and there is no better way to begin building the future of Fresca,” said Andy Savin, CEO of Fresca. “We thank all of our loyal customers and hardworking associates for helping make our business so successful.”
Fresca is excited to introduce a new size of its popular homestyle tortilla. “The 5” flour is a perfect tortilla for today’s popular street tacos, and nearly every customer has a menu application for it,” said Tom Nist, VP of Sales & Marketing. “Today’s consumers are looking for new and stimulating flavor combinations, and street tacos are leading the way in delivering fun-sized, shareable dining options,” stated Nist.
Fresca is proud to announce it has launched a line of non-GMO tortillas in both foodservice and at retail. The exceptionally pliable, fresh-baked products are Project Non-GMO Verified, have no preservatives, trans fats or artificial ingredients. Chefs and consumers are raving that this is the best tortilla they have ever seen and are amazed that it is a clean label product too.
“We are proud to be able to provide our foodservice customers and consumers a superior quality product that also meets their expectations for healthier ingredients,” said Tom Nist, VP of Sales and Marketing. “Most people expect a clean label product to be lower quality and ours really has shocked our customers on how soft and pliable it is.”
One of Fresca’s key customers asked for a new tortilla for a springtime LTO and Fresca’s R&D department worked closely with the customer’s culinary team to develop a one of a kind tortilla.
“Our customer wanted to blend the pliability of a flour tortilla with the taste profile of a corn tortilla for a new street taco promotion”, said Tom Nist, VP of Sales & Marketing. “It was an exciting collaboration of our R&D team and the customer Culinary team and the end product is really great. Soft and pliable but with corn taste.”
Fresca completed its annual SQF audit and had a score of 96 out of 100, the second year that it has scored 96 or above.

One of Fresca’s key customers asked for a new tortilla for a summertime LTO and Fresca’s R&D department quickly developed a proprietary Buffalo Blue Cheese tortilla.
“This is a great example of our “customer first” mentality”, said Andy Savin, CEO and President of Fresca. “We were able to develop a unique flavored tortilla that really compliments our customers new menu item and retains all of the fresh baked attributes of our standard tortillas”.
At this year’s ECRM Conference, Fresca’s new all natural, no preservative brand, Tortilla Revolution, was picked by 8 of 10 buyers in a blind taste test as superior vs. the leading national brand. Tortilla Revolution is being tested in the Boise market in select retailers including Whole Foods.
“It really confirms our consumer research that people prefer tortillas that don’t have artificial preservatives and chemicals found in shelf stable products,” said Tom Nist, VP of Sales and Marketing. “Our focus group feedback told us that once a consumer tries Tortilla Revolution, they were a “customer for life.”
